TNPSC annual planner states that the official notification should be released on first week of August. But, it has been delayed and officially published on 9th November 2016. According to TNPSC group 1 notification issued for this year states that there are 85 positions are vacant. Among eight Group 1 civil service designations, only 6 of them are going to be filled by this year. However, the three most important positions Deputy Collector, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Taxes are going to be filled. While considering academic qualification, candidates possessing Any Bachelors Degree are eligible to apply. However, there are some preferences for aspirants possessing degree in Law (B.L) or commerce (B.Com) or both. This preference is only for the Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Taxes designation only.
Also, candidates applying for Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) must possess a degree or diploma in Criminology and Forensic Science. In addition to that candidates holding a National Award in Physical Efficiency will given more preferences.
For District Employment Officer post, candidates have to possess degree in Economics/ Sociology/ Statistics and Psychology with Post Graduate Diploma in Social Science and Experience in Industrial/ Personal Management/ Labour Welfare are eligible.
Age Limit and Relaxation
Aspirants who are willing to submit application for Combined Civil Services exam must comply with the age limit and restrictions. According to the notification the minimum age limit apply for Group-1 exam is 21 years and the maximum is 30 years.
Candidates belonging to SC/ST, MBC, BC, BCM and all other reserved categories may get age relaxation up to 5 years. In this case the upper age limit will be considered as 35 years. Likewise, candidates having B.L degree are eligible to get age relaxation of 1 year in addition to all the above said limits.
All these age limit and relaxation will be reckoned as on 1st July 2016. From this date the age of the individuals will be calculated.
TNPSC selects deserving candidates for Combined Civil Service (CCS-1) by conducting several stages of filtering process. Initially Preliminary Exam takes place; this test will be conducted by means of Objective Type pattern. Aspirants successfully clearing this test will be further invited for Main Exam which will be held at Chennai.
On considering the marks obtained in the Main Exam, candidates will be shortlisted and further invited for personal or oral interview. Thereafter they will undergo physical standard and physical fitness test for the designations whichever applicable.
Before appointment contenders have to submit the Medical Fitness certification as prescribed by the norms of TNPSC.
Aspirants who are eager to participate in Group-1 Exam 2017 must have to pay an application or exam fee for the amount said in the below table. Candidates belonging to reserved category and women’s are exempted from paying Examination Fee. The application fee is compulsory for everyone.

To claim fee exemption, a valid supporting document must be submitted by the candidate during the registration process. Only online mode of fee remittance is accepted and offline payment will not be considered. Candidate, who else having one time registration ID is no needed to pay the application fee again.
Scale of Pay and Salary
Competitors who successfully completed all the selection stages will be appointed in the concerned designation which they opted during the registration. These appointees will get salary according to the pay band (PB-3) which is Rs.15600-39100/- per month. In addition to this they will get a Grade Pay (GP) Rs.5400/– per month. Apart from this they are applicable to get all the allowances and benefits provided by the government to employees time to time.
